Space Conspiracies and Hoaxes I can’t blame people for being suspicious. Take the recent flight of the Blue Origin capsule with the all women crew as an example. I think most of us have seen the video after the capsule was supposed to have landed. If one looks carefully, they can see the door open slightly from the inside and then shut before Bezos comes along with what seems to be a pry bar to open the door. Even more curious to us of watches of rocket launches and capsule landings, we are asked to believe the Blue Origin capsule suffered no burns or marks when every other capsule suffers them on reentry. It seems to me either that capsule was never launched, or the interviews were conducted before launch. This is just my observation and I wonder if anyone has a different opinion? There are still plenty of people that think we never went to the moon. They claim the landing was a phony and the entire moon lander was really a set. I personally don’t believe this but there was a set constructed to familiarize the astronauts with what it will be like to land on the moon. While this might have been a good idea for the astronauts for practice, it was a terrible one for public relations. NASA should have realized this would lead to a conspiracy theory. I think the fact everyone knew about the set and what it was used for eliminates the fact the landing was faked. If NASA wanted to fake it, they probably never would have told us they were practicing on the set for the landing. With these conspiracies is sprinkled in some things that make most people wonder how anyone can believe them. I am thinking about the Flat Earth theory. Just the fact that every planet in our solar system and outside are roughly ball shaped and the fact the ancient Greeks proved the Earth was round. Then there is the fact we have been photographed from space and ships can be seen lowering going over the horizon. Yet, there are still those that believe the earth is flat. One of the things which many call a hoax is the face on Mars. This story was actually pushed NASA to try their best to hide the face. The first photos showed the face, but this must have startled NASA. I am surprised they even released those photos. In order to hide the face, they took better color photos which pictured the face as a pile of dirt and that is when some in the scientific community took offense at this because they allegedly found out that NASA only used 16 colors out of 256 to create the pile of dirt and felt if all 256 colors were used, we might have seen the face appear. If there was no face, why doctor the photo? In 2015 a story came out that claimed the planets would align and this would affect the Earth in a very specific manner. The effect was said to be weightlessness for all of us for 24 hours. The hoax was pulled off by creating a fake tweet from NASA’s Twitter account. You can imagine how quick this circulated. I have good news, nobody floated into space. NASA watches the sun and I remember when something strange was seen. It looked like an object just above the sun’s surface. It wasn’t long before many were saying it was an extraterrestrial craft drawing power from the sun to refuel. NASA dashed that story by giving us an explanation of what the object was. They said it was called a prominence, which is a part of the sun which is cooler and had denser plasma than its surroundings. That killed a great story. When some have thought life exists on Mars, there are those who believe it exists on Venus. One of the problems with this idea is the crushing atmosphere on the surface. The pressure is about the same as being 3,000 feet under water. In truth we have found life in our oceans at this depth, so that gives us hope. There was also the Russian scientist who worked on the Russian Venus landers. He claimed he saw life in some of the photographs taken. The scientist was Leonid Ksanfomaliti who worked on the Venera landers. The landers were crushed after a few minutes and today most do not believe life is on the surface of Venus but there are those who think microbes might live in the clouds. Some myths go way back, but in some cases, you can’t blame the astronomer for being wrong. Take the case for canals on Mars. Schiaparelli was an Italian astronomer who believed he had detected canals on Mars, through his telescope. He published a map of Mars in 1877 showing the canals and later Percival Lowell became obsessed with Mars and the canals. He studied the planet and canals for years not realizing there were no canals. The theory was, there were intelligent beings on Mars who built canals for irrigation. The canals turned out to be optical illusions when better views were made with probes. There is said to be a satellite named the Black Knight which is said to be circling the earth for the last 10,000 years. It is also said the reason it can only be seen very infrequently, is it becomes invisible most of the time. It is said to be in a polar orbit which is quite unusual. It is also said NASA knows about it and it was reported by Time magazine in 1960. If it is ever found to truly exist it would mean we have been under observation for a very long time. Could it be some sort of mother ship for the UFOs flying through our skies, or is it just a hoax? One of the things said to be a conspiracy, or hoax if you would rather, are the stories about death bed confessions by those who were the managers of the Lockheed Skunk Works who were said to admit we can now travel to any location in space even other galaxies. At first this sounds outrageous, but we could have discovered a new propulsion. That is the problem with some hoaxes, they sound very believable. I am not saying this is a conspiracy or hoax, because I have no way of knowing. There are plenty more space hoaxes and conspiracies, but the problem is many of them, which are listed, are listed because the listers classified them this way and not everyone agrees on their status.
