Will The Earth Pass Through Other Dimensions?

There is so much to our universe, that it is not unusual to discover more theories and opinions about it almost every day. Along this line I have heard something suggested something which I had never heard before and yet it is surprising no one has thought about it in the past, or at least they never told me. We know everything in our universe is in motion. Even objects which don’t seem to us to move are also in motion. Galaxies travel through space, solar systems are also moving and taking with them everything inside of them. As a matter of fact it is said our solar system will break out of our galaxy someday. Planets orbit their stars which are moving, moons orbit their planets and asteroids, comets and meteors are traveling through our solar system. Even the asteroid belt is not standing still. Why am I telling you all this, it is so obvious? The reason is there are those who are now saying the motion of our galaxy and solar system is carrying us into contact with other dimensions.

The dimension these people are talking about is the fourth dimension. So what exactly is the fourth dimension? It is the unification of time and space. There have been many different ideas on what a life form would look like to us. The consensus is it would look like pieces of bodies with some parts connected to them. You might see a neck with a jaw attached and floating near it might be a partial face. Some say the fourth dimensional being would be able to do things in our dimension which would seem like magic to us, such as reaching inside our body without hurting us or making a wound. But wait, there are some scientists who are working very hard to disconnect time from a fourth dimension. They believe that time is not connected to space in any way and exists independently.

These scientists are connected to the Space Life Institute in Slovenia and they claim they have proved in a new study that time dilation and length contraction can be described better within the framework of a 3D space where time is the quantity to measure change in this space. They claim we have been wrong about this relationship for almost a century and that the idea of time as the fourth dimension lacks any experimental support. The idea of time as the fourth dimension is still far more popular than the idea it isn’t. I think what is being said here is time may be affected by mass, but it is not suitable to believe it is a dimension, it is something else. I don’t want to confuse anyone by having them think these are my beliefs or those of the majority of scientists, I am just trying to explain the thinking of the scientists from the Space Life Institute.

If the fourth dimension does exist and our galaxy is headed into it somehow, what does this mean for us? One of the first things I think of when I hear about the fourth dimension is the convergence of time. Some cite the movie 2001 A Space Odyssey as an illustration of that. They are referring to the scenes near the end of the film which show Keir Dullea rapidly going through changes in time from a baby to an old man. Obviously no one really knows what would happen. Some believe time will all come together and everything will happen at once. This means the past, present and future might merge. I really don’t know how one would explain this, suffice it to say it would be some mess. Others say the past no longer exists so we don’t have to worry about it and the future hasn’t happened yet so we can forget about that also, which means this merging cannot possibly happen. This is the way my brain operates and that is one of the reasons I don’t think we could ever travel to the real past, but perhaps we could see echoes of it where we could not interact with the past.

If we are moving toward the fourth dimension then it seems it would have to be located at a certain point in space and this is why I cannot agree with this idea. It seems to me while we travel we are in the same universe unless there is some sort of rip in the fabric of space which might lead to another dimension. If we accept the theory we are headed toward the fourth dimension who is to say there are no other dimensions out there. If there are we will eventually have to pass through them. This would all be unfortunate for us since we are not equipped to deal with anything over three dimensions and time. There may be beings out there who are, we have no way of knowing. I don’t think any of us could accurately depict what higher dimensions would even look like, although there is no shortage of guesses.
There is a theory which states there are multiverses, universes where every action we could have taken in life exist. It is just another theory but if it turned out to be true, perhaps these other universes would be dimensions and our idea of other dimensions and how they work is completely wrong. Remember it would not be the first time science was mistaken about something and it certainly won’t be the last, because science consists of a lot of trial and error. Theories fall by the wayside all the time even if they have lasted many years.

If there are other dimensions and we are going through them it is going to be quite a ride, but there is something else to consider and that is nature. Nature has a way of helping life adapt to certain situations. This might mean the human race would evolve as we passed through these dimensions allowing us to be able to understand them and survive. If the planet and sun survive long enough who knows how many dimensions we could pass through.

Somehow I don’t think we will ever have to worry about that. I believe we will continue our journey through space as we have for billions of years and our solar system will continue on its trajectory. The Andromeda galaxy will collide with us in about four billion years and the prediction is that our solar system will be swept three times further from the new merged galaxy’s core. It won’t make any difference to us because the surface of the earth will become so hot water would boil on it. This is probably more accurate than the idea of passing through dimensions.
