Ghosts
It seems just about any city in the United States has a hotel which is said to be haunted. Why is this? There are a couple of reasons for this. One is the fact it is sort of a badge of honor to a hotel and seems to attract more customers. Another reason might be there is more to the paranormal than most of us suspect. If people believe ghosts haunt the earth, then they need somewhere to go. It is said that just in the United States since 1776 there has been around 735 million people who died. I think this is far too low an estimate, but I will accept it for lack of a better one. Could it be we have 735 million ghosts in our country? I know this sounds silly doesn’t it, but could there be some percentage of this figure still here?
Is it even a question of being here or just being able to sort of visit once in a while? There is a belief there are visits and some believe there are particular places the same ghosts can be found. As far as spirits go, there are cases of relatives of a deceased person who live in all different places being contacted by the same family spirit. Distance does not seem to be a limitation in contact. That makes me think of the future. What I mean is when we finally travel to other worlds, will it still be possible for a spirit to make contact no matter where we are? This could be a paranormal first.
Some hotels claim a particular room is more haunted than the rest. They even warn a guest about the room, and I bet some might even charge more to stay in it overnight. Some say the most haunted hotel in America is the Crescent Hotel in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. The hotel banks on people coming there for the hauntings and offers special ghost packages. There are even custom ghost tours. They show many photos of paranormal events on their website. I don’t know if they are really the most haunted hotel or not, but they certainly advertise the fact.
There are many photos we can find from security cameras online which purport to show some very strange things. I remember one that was said to be a ghost floating over a service station. It had been photographed at night by a security camera. While it did look kind of spooky, it turned out to be only a white plastic bag floating in the wind. The reason it looked so strange as it floated was the fact it was translucent.
There are public places where so many people have reported seeing spirits that there has to be something going on. I am thinking about The USS Hornet. The Hornet is an aircraft carrier which has been turned into a museum. The ship is moored in Alameda, California. Many of the people who visit it have come away believing it is haunted. One ghost on the ship has become famous. It is known as the Dress Whites Ghost, a spirit of a sailor who is wearing dress whites. It seems some women have heard men’s voices while they were in the woman’s bathroom, but there was no one there. This is one of the more common haunts. We have to remember in World War 2, which is from when the ship was used, all bathrooms were men’s since no women served on the ship. There have also been photos taken which when later viewed showed people who were not visible when the photo was taken.
One of the professions which I thought might have some paranormal experiences are archaeologists. Think about it, they are opening ancient cursed tombs at times and disturbing the dead at others. Some of the objects they have discovered are even said to be haunted. There is an ancient stone sculpture known as the Goddess of Death and it is estimated to be 3,500 years old. The first owner of the statue lost 7 family members from the time he acquired the statue. The next 3 owners lost family members. The next owner donated it to the Royal Scottish Museum in Edinburgh. The curator died within a year. Yes, people unfortunately die, but this seems to be too many who had a connection to the statue.
One has to wonder why Edison ever thought he could build a machine to contact the dead? He was actually experimenting with what became known as the Spirit Phone. From what I can find a lot of people were rooting for him to succeed. I guess that is only natural. No plans were ever found and I saw a clever saying that stated perhaps he is in the spirit world trying to build a device to contact the living. Could it be his spirit phone was successful but scared him so much he destroyed it and never admitted to his invention?
One home owner was not happy on what is room camera picked up. He was on a trip and decided to check his phone to look in on his house. What met his eye scared the heck out of him. What looked like faint smoke was floating two thirds up the way to the ceiling. In the faint smoke it looked like there could be some sort of figure. After seeing this, he felt very uneasy about going home, and who could blame him.
One place in Seattle, Washington has quite a story to tell. Today it is known as Kell’s Irish Restaurant & Pub. It didn’t start out as a pub. When it first opened for business it was Butterworth & Sons Mortuary. I would say it was quite different. Maybe this is one of the reasons so many ghosts have been reported being seen in and around the pub. The Mortuary owner was accused of cooperating with a serial killer named Linda Hazzard. The ghost of a red headed girl has been reported being seen in the restaurant. It is said she is a joker.
There is a park in Rochester, New York, which is said to be haunted. It is said the park is haunted by the White Lady. There is even a sign posted by the William G. Pomeroy foundation stating the White Lady grieving woman’s ghost and her wolf-like hounds appear in the night mist searching this roadside for her lost daughter. At the top of the sign is an indication this is part of legends and Lore. It is said a man was grabbed by the back of his shirt and was being dragged away but managed to break free from whatever was dragging him.
