News 10 May, 2022 Fungi is neither a plant or an animal. It is said to be living. Did you hear about the latest thing concerning fungi? Scientists are claiming fungi can communicate with each other. Plants can also do it chemically, but what makes it so unusual with fungi is scientists are saying they have a vocabulary of about 50 words. They claim to have found this out by finding electrical spikes which resemble human speech. It reminds me of those old science fiction movies Attack of the whatever. Fungi are unique in the kingdom of life. They are the yeasts, molds and mushrooms. Could it turn out fungi have some sort of rudimentary intelligence? Elon Musk’s Starship had drawn a lot of attention in military circles. Of course, one of the most interested branches of the military is the Space Force. They were very impressed with the Starship when one of their representatives went to Florida to see it and the representative commented this is what the future looks like. The launch of Starship is being held up by the Federal Aviation Administration. I have an idea about that and it is, it is being held up so it doesn’t launch ahead of the first flight of NASA’s Artemis rocket which is plagued by problems, cost overruns and delays. It is already looking very embarrassing for both NASA and the builders of the rocket, especially when you consider the technology of the rocket isn’t much different from that used on the Saturn V rocket which went to the moon. One has to wonder how long major weapons can be kept out of space. Does anyone really believe countries like Russia and China wouldn’t love to aim weapons at us? The same goes for some other countries which are getting more into improving rocket designs like North Korea and Iran. Some things just can’t be stopped with a war and the truth of the matter is at the rate we are going far too many countries will have nuclear weapons and some might even decided their god wants them to launch them against us. What is really needed the most is the scrapping of all nuclear weapons, but I don’t see how this can be accomplished by any earthly nation or force. For the past several years and longer scientists have been mapping human genome and now they have finally finished with the last one. It is hard for us to grasp the meaning of this since most of us are not scientists. It will enable us to understand many of the nuances of the functions of the body and will be of tremendous help in fighting diseases. So exactly what is a genome? It is all the instructions in a human cell which tells our bodies what to do in certain circumstances. Scientists believe one of the strangest extinctions was that of the Neanderthals. Here is what they said about Neanderthals going extinct on the Iberian Peninsula. They said as one group of Neanderthals would go extinct, they group would be replaced by another group of Neanderthals until there were no more Neanderthals to replace them. I would love to know how they could prove this. The more we find out about Neanderthals the bigger the mystery of their extinction. We just do not know why they died out. Possibly a disease modern humans were immune to struck them. There has been so many theories about this, one of which was modern humans were too smart for them and killed them. Since that theory, it has been found humans and Neanderthals intermingled. Everyone has heard of Harley-Davidson and when we hear that name we think of motorcycles. I wonder how many people out there know they was a plane built in 1927 with their engine powering it? This March a man decided to try and get the plane running. He was a museum employee of Wheels Through Time where the plane was and he was able to taxi the plane which was 95 years old. Here we go again. Astronomers want to send out a new message into space to attract extraterrestrials. As I have said in the past if aliens wanted to contact us, they know we are here due to all the radio and television programs which have beamed out from earth. The first commercial radio broadcast began in 1920 which means it would have reached into space about 102 light years out since radio waves travel at the speed of light. Voyager 1 was launched in 1977 and is now between solar systems. That’s means if it was heading toward the closest star system Alpha Centauri, it would take about 75,000 years. That probe contained a record with facts about the human race and our planet. IN 1974 we sent a message for extraterrestrials into space which would have reached 48 light years out. The proposed new signal has been named The Beacon in the Galaxy or BITG message. Besides a new message it will contain a copy of every other message sent so far. One of the reasons some people will never have a cat as a pet is the fact, they are allergic to cats. This may become a thing of the past if scientists are correct. Scientists claim they have figured out how to solve the problem by modifying the cats and also say it doesn’t harm them. It is turning out the reason for a cat allergy is cats produce a protein named Fel D 1. Scientists are experimenting with a food additive and a vaccine for cats to produce or limit this protein. Atherosclerosis is a major cause of heart attacks and strokes and as we age it becomes even more of a problem. Scientists have reduced the incidence of this in mice by boosting the conditions which help prevent this. They said they boosted chaperone-mediated autophagy also known as CMA a technique our cells used for housekeeping. Nobody likes getting a biopsy. Unfortunately, they are necessary to discover if we have certain diseases. A team of engineers is working on a replacement method of detection which would use real-time imaging from within the body. A new instrument known as MediSCAPE which is a high-speed 3D microscope is capable of getting images of tissue structures which could eliminate the need for biopsies. There is an idea making the rounds which states charging an electric car can be made as fast as gassing up. The idea is to use quantum technology to accomplish this. Scientists suggest that somehow quantum entanglement can be used to speed up the charging process.
