Global Warming Is Starting To Hurt

One thing we know for sure is our planet’s environment is changing and it doesn’t seem to be for the better. This fact was constantly being denied in Washington by one of our political parties, because changes might have meant less profits for the oil tycoons and power dealers, but even some of them are now admitting we might be in trouble. New York City has announced a plan which they say will cut down on the city’s carbon emissions by about 80 percent, but like all plans put forth by politicians the target date is so far in the future it cannot be promised and many people today will not be alive to see if it even gets achieved. The date proposed was 2050. I don’t know how anyone else feels, but I am tired of hearing politicians promising plans which will change something with the date of achievement so far in the future it is a joke. These people think they will get credit for something and have to do nothing, but make a promise which means nothing. It is the same the world over when it comes to politics.

Some people in New York City are so worried about the ocean’s rising because of global warming, they are looking into ways to block the ocean from overwhelming Manhattan Island. Even with this going on politicians are still playing games with the environment by allowing companies to sell off credits which allow them to dump a certain amount of carbon into the atmosphere legally. This has angered a lot of people who are helpless to stop it, because truthfully they and we just don’t have the lobbying power. Then there are those who think the earth still is not warming, because they are experiencing cold weather where they are located. Either they don’t realize it is the average temperature of the earth which matters not the temperature in the particular part of the world they are in on a given day, or they just don’t care because if they admit there is global warming and more rules go into effect it will interfere with their profits.

Things are happening all around us which point to warming and to events we don’t even understand. The ice is melting fast at the North Pole and if this keeps up it will be gone soon, geologically speaking. Some are saying there is no ice melt in the South Pole, but these people don’t have all the facts. It turns out the ice is melting from below. Two robotic dolphins were sent to the South Pole and when they swam under the ice flows they gathered data which was disturbing. They found warm water under the ice which was melting it from underneath. This means even though the ice looks the same from the surface it is melting and some will say nothing is happening there or the ice is getting thicker when it is actually melting in a way we cannot see from the surface. As more ice melts in both poles the rate of warming is bound to accelerate since there will be less ice to cool it down.

Animals have been acting very strange lately with massive die offs taking place. Birds have fallen out of the sky dead, fish have died in massive numbers and some species of animals have decided to kill their young. One cannot help but be reminded of the biblical tale of the end of days. I am not saying the earth is going to end, but if we keep going the way we are without caring about our home planet it could end civilization on this world someday. Can you imagine how foolish we would look to aliens if they were watching? They would see a race of people who dump their exhausts into the air they breathe, use nuclear fuels which produce waste that contaminate the earth for hundreds of thousands of years and have weapons to drop on each other which could destroy the world everyone lives on. It just doesn’t make any sense when you look at things this way.

I have no idea why there have been so many events where massive amount of animals have died so I can’t really prove it has to do with global warming, but I can say this. I don’t ever remember hearing about this when I was younger. Was it the fact it didn’t happen or at least as much, or was it because the news of the day was only in papers, on the radio or in theatres? It is quite obvious we have much better communication around the world than we did when I was young, but I believe massive animal kill offs would still have made the news.

The real question is why have some animals began killing their young? Animals unlike humans kill their young because it gives them a better chance to survive. They might do it to insure the survival of the pack when there is not enough food, to ensure leadership if the young animal was the offspring of a former leader or if the young animal is sick or deformed. This reaction is built into some animals and it is perfectly normal to them, even though it might sicken us. Some ask the question can we prove any animal deaths are the result of global warming and the answer seems to be yes. Two species of animals in Costa Rica are now extinct, because the environment has changed so much due to global warming they could no longer exist. They are the Golden toad and the harlequin frog.

There are other animals showing unhealthy results because of global warming. Polar bears in the Hudson Bay area are losing weight and are becoming sicklier. This is caused by ice breaking up 2 weeks earlier than usual. This means their hunting season is cut by two weeks. Fish in Cornwall in the south of England have moved, because of the warming and went to the Shetland Islands where things are colder. This is not the first time climate change which could be detrimental to species on earth. About 350 million years ago the Carboniferous Rainforest Collapsed. This destroyed many amphibian races and sped up the evolution of reptiles.

I think we are running out of time to try and check global warming, but even if we had time and could change things, we would have to convince those short sighted profiteers and their government lackeys who resist change, because it might cost them money. They don’t seem to care about the future of this planet.
