Ramblings
Sometimes life’s troubles gang up on people. It is not always life altering, it could just be a bunch of little things which are very annoying. Let me give you a small example. I was covering a window air conditioner for the winter and I had a stringless blind on the window. I raised it up to fit the cover and when I went to lower it, it was stuck. The blind just would not pull down the way it was supposed to and part of the window pane was now exposed. I got a stepstool and found I would need to stand on the top step to reach the blind to take it down. That was a little too shaky so now I had to go into the basement and get the ladder. I lugged it up and opened it. A set of curtains was over the blind so I had to take the curtain rod down, but that was easier said than done. The rod spanned 4 windows and the far end got stuck. After some finagling, I managed to tilt the rod on my side clearing the blind. Next, I took down the blind and realized I still could not lower it. Next, I went to YouTube, to see if there were any helpful videos. Some told me to look for a non-existent button and others told me to check for a cork stopper of some kind. I was getting frustrated until I found a video which stated to hold the top of the blind and pull very hard on the bottom to spread it. I tried it and it worked. I had been afraid to do this thinking I might break the blind. I climbed on the ladder, reinserted the blind into its hardware and climbed down the ladder after putting the curtain and rod back in place. Now I know what you are thinking and that this is the end of the story, but it is not. When I went to fold up the ladder it now was stuck. You just can’t make these things up. I pulled and pulled but the ladder would not fold. The way the ladder worked was the top step extended out to hold paint cans and such and clicked over a bar. The darn thing was stuck and felt like it was welded. The way to fold it was you pulled the top step up on a handhold. I should at this point say this was the way it was supposed to work. I landed up beating on the step to disengage it and after about 20 minutes it popped open and I was able to fold and return the ladder to the basement.
This was the same day for the Mike Tyson and Jake Paul fight. I don’t know why I really wanted to watch it, because Tyson was 58 years old and finished and Paul never fought any real rated boxers just mostly MMA guys, most of who were retired. The entire event didn’t seem to me to be worthy of anything, but it was Tyson so I decided to look at it. Tyson was said to have asked for the 2-minute rounds, to obviously make the fight easier for him, but I have no proof to that affect. Boxing usually has 3-minute rounds for men’s boxing.
When boxers reach a certain age, usually much younger than Tyson though, they get fatigued a lot easier. I have seen many fighters try and make a comeback, but they just no longer have the endurance and Tyson was no different. The entire fight Paul danced around him as he slowly trudged around the ring taking light shots from Paul. I would have felt sorry for him except for the fact he was being paid twenty million dollars for this fiasco and Paul was getting forty million. So, I ask you, why did we even watch this after the first round?
Netflix had big problems with the transmission. I had to reset it 5 times during the fights. Talking to others about this I found out some had even worse problems and missed parts of some of the fights on the card. I don’t want to sound like a chauvinist, but I don’t like to see women beating the heck out of each other. That is exactly what happened in one of the fights which was a women’s bout. It might have something to do with the idea in my day where men were supposed to protect women, but I also realize it has been around a long time and was an Olympic event in 1904 and dates back even two centuries before that in London.
If Netflix ever runs another event like that, I don’t think I would watch it. There was so much hype about it they must have made a fortune. I would hope they would learn from the problems they had and have a much more successful transmission the next time they do an event.
The congress is pushing for even more UFO hearings. One of the big problems is the non-disclosure agreements signed by the whistleblowers which stop them from testifying to some things, important things. It made me wonder if Donald Trump had the power as president to make them null and void when he takes office? Can you imagine what we might learn if the witnesses were no longer bound by these agreements? It seems just when they get to the juicy stuff you hear them say they are not allowed to say anymore. I certainly can’t blame them; they do not want to go to jail or have their careers ruined. It is very annoying when one watches the hearings and that continuously comes up. At the last hearing I almost felt why were some of them even there. They were so bound up they couldn’t really answer much. This seemed to be especially true for Luis Elizondo, who seemed to cite the non-disclosure agreement more than anyone else.
The governor of New York, Kathy Hochul has decided to try and get her congestion pricing toll activated before Trump can stop it. Talk about highway robbery. The toll is going to be placed around the midsection of Manhattan Island, and will just add more grief. It is supposed to start on January 5, 2025. Imagine paying a toll to use local streets. The price was originally in the $23 range but has been reduced to $9 right now but you can bet once it gets rolling it will be increased and some other cities might also jump on the idea. Trucks will be charged a lot more, causing the prices of merchandise in stores in the area to be raised.
