What is the Future for the Internet, Communications and Us?
I never thought about this before, but millions of websites have disappeared since the internet was formed. It only stands to reason this has happened because companies go out of business, people die and so forth. Once in a while I use the Wayback Machine site to look at a snapshot of an old website just for the sake of memories. Sites can request to be excluded.
What is in store for the future internet? When we talk about quantum physics and the entangle of particles making instant communication possible, that could mean some day there would be a universal internet. The idea might seem similar to the internet of today, but it would be different because it probably would also entail extraterrestrials. As a matter of fact, it might already exist and from everything I have heard over the years, people might be able to use it just by using their minds. It would open up the entire universe to us. It might be hard for some of us to use or even impossible at first because people who can perform remote viewing might be the only ones capable of tapping into it.
Of course this is speculation, but don’t you think if extraterrestrials can travel to this planet and fly all around, they have communications which are so fast they might be instantaneous?
The internet we have today would be useless for off planet connections. I mean, who wants to wait for hours to get and answer to a post from the distance of Neptune. Can you imagine one of our spacecraft in trouble sending a radio message from their ship stating they only had an hour of oxygen left? By the time it arrived they would have been dead for hours.
Over the years I have tried things which worked exceedingly slow on computers. When I had an Amiga computer I loved it. There was a piece of software I had which allowed me to run the first Windows and it just crept along and was unusable. Every once in a while, some piece of software in those days was also slow and the modems were so slow we had to run them all night to try and get a piece of what we would call tiny software downloaded. Another problem was sometimes the connection would break during the night when you were asleep and all that time was wasted.
You know what amazes me is the fact there were some games for the Amiga computer that were really great and ran so well back then. We are talking about a machine with a Motorola 68000 CPU. That was the first Amiga central processing unit. It ran between 1 to 2 Megahertz. The average speed of a computer’s CPU at the time of this article is between 1.6 to 2.5 Gigahertz. Presently the computer I use is a lot faster than even that. Of course, the Amiga had custom chips to help relieve the burden on the CPU when programs ran.
What lies ahead for the internet? I think some day we might be able to transport small objects and maybe even bigger ones over it. I am not talking about live creatures, but things like tools, art, small machines and such, and why not? These things are made of atoms and if we could reassemble them the same way we could be in business. The same might be true for food and supplies. Think of this, a ship is stranded in space and the crew needs supplies to survive until help arrives. We transport food and water, along with anything else they might need.
In the future the internet might be more than a means of entertainment.
Maybe, what seems totally impossible today will be available in tomorrow’s world. If you have the space, you might be able to transport purchases no matter how large to an area you want. I am thinking about buying a car and it is sent over the internet and right into my garage. Wouldn’t that be something.
To everything a dark side exists and say we have this technology. It might be able to be used on humans in a war to make them disappear by disassembling the atoms in their bodies. That is a chilling thought. Maybe it might even be possible to erase parts of their minds which might not kill them but turn them into obedient slaves. That is the problem with all inventions, if they have a possible dark side, it gets exploited.
The stock market might have to change the way it operates in the future, because artificial intelligence might make investing returns a sure thing. If people knew they had an incredible chance to make a huge profit using an artificial intelligence program it might take most of the risk out of investing and cause havoc in the market. I read one piece of software based on artificial intelligence made $50,000 in a month on a $5,000 investment.
I have always been fascinated by computers and now that I am a lot older, I still feel the same way. It started in 1974 when I took computers in college. In 1982 I purchased my first home computer the Sinclair 1000, and just kept upgrading until I got to where I am today. For awhile I wrote software as a hobby and put it into the public domain for Amiga owners. When the Amiga went out of business, I stopped writing software and just used computers for my entertainment. I made an exception and wrote a program for Windows using a database. It was useful for my work. That was the very end of programming for me.
I am willing to bet the future of computers and the internet, along with communications will be so different if we were still alive, we would not recognize it. If one takes into consideration the speed which technology is increasing by, we may not recognize technology 100 years from now. We think the alien technology we are witnessing with UFOs must be many thousands of years ahead of us, but that may not be true, it might turn out that we have already caught up and are hiding the fact, or that in 100 years we could be caught up. Afterall, who would have thought we would have already sent robots to Mars for years by now. Who thought we would have A.I. making decisions in industry in some cases or doing jobs on their own? If you would have asked me about these 50 years ago, I might have called it science fiction.
